my space/your space
Berlin

recycled fabric / garbage stuffing / video-sound projection
This tree is the first thing that “spoke” to me right after I arrived at my residency at the villa k. in Berlin. I strangely longed for it but did not quite understand why. My common reaction to nature is confusion. I grew up in the midst of big concrete buildings in Tehran with very little exposure to nature.
The project “my space/your space” is almost a failed project. It was supposed to be an exploration of my relationship with nature.
We as humans metaphorically act as cancer cells to the nature. We suck on it, use it and destroy it. I initially meant to figure out how this relationship (my space versus the nature’s) works. Having to share the natural space with others made it harder than ever for me to comprehend it, and i abandoned my tree. I have spent the last few weeks idled, uncreative, and in my own version of transit zone.
Ultimately, I decided to project A video compilation of my days in Berlin on this tree. This video is the representation of a spatial devision as well as the banality of my daily life during my residency at the cirques charivari.
